You’ve heard of Movember, right? More than just the hairiest month of the year, it’s a global fundraising movement, and it’s fun!
Begun in Australia by two mates, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, Movember aims to raise awareness of pressing men’s health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health, and physical inactivity.
Since its origin in 2003, the movement has spread to over 20 countries and raised over $600 million.
In general, men have a lower life expectancy than women by about 6 years. Men commit suicide far more than women, and the effect of prostate and testicular cancer on lives is significant. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide, and the occurrence is expected to nearly double to around 1.7 million cases by 2030.
The founders have deemed the moustache “nature’s billboard” and see it as a great way to start a conversation about men’s health during the month of November. Of course, they raise funds all year round.
That’s it! Plus you can feel good about doing your part to help men live happier, healthier, longer lives.
There’s a new way to celebrate Movember this year, and now ladies can get involved too!
So men, grow your mo’s, and ladies, get on the move and support the men you know. We know our customers like to feel good, and moving for a good cause feels good!
You can learn about the Movember Foundation partners and sign up to participate on their website. They even have resources for starting a fun Movement via community, workplace, or industry-based teams. See who can raise the most funds in your running group or fantasy football league!
